Bedtime stories with Adeline

Tonight we read several books at bedtime. Typically we start with a new book and end up reading her favorites over and over again until she fell asleep.
Jane usually falls asleep after the first few pages of the first book but Adeline wants to hear every last word.
Our books tonight..
Mommy? A pop up scary story book
Sesame Street fairytale ABC's
Three Bears Halloween
Trick or Treat shapes
The Gingerbread Man
Just go to bed
Runaway Bunny
Good night moon

I absolutely love reading to my kids, I love that they look forward to it every night and when I'm not feeling well, they love having daddy read the books!

But tonight was different.

Adeline is smart, really smart. I don't typically brag but this seems worthy of it.
She is only 3 and throughout all of the books tonight she was able to tell me what each shape was, find the shapes by herself, find common themes, express how the book made her feel and even correctly answer basic reading comprehension questions I would ask her.

Let me share some worthy examples..

While reading the Sesame Street book she noticed the gingerbread man running away on one of the pages. When I started the gingerbread man book she remembered the page from the precious book. (Common themes)

At the end of the gingerbread man book she expressed without being coaxed that she was sad because the fox didn't give the gingerbread back to the little boy and ate it all by himself. She also correctly answered comprehension questions I would ask, what do you think will happen to the bear? (He will chase the gingerbread man) Will he catch the gingerbread man? (He will have to rest too but maybe he will catch him)

At the end of the book, just go to bed, she told me she hated that book because she didn't want to go to bed like the critter.

Last but not least, we read the runaway bunny and goodnight moon. She always knew while reading the bunny book that the mommy would find him and hugged me because I told her I'm always there for her too. Then while reading goodnight moon, her eyes got so big when she noticed the mommy bunny and little bunny were the same ones from the other bunny book. She also noticed the cow jumping over the moon like we read in the Sesame Street book. She also noticed the page in goodnight moon with a picture on the wall from the runaway bunny book.

I could keep going about her intelligence and every little thing she did while reading tonight. It just fascinates me! I am so proud to be her mommy!!

End note: I am always so proud of Mary and Jane too!! I'm just thankful to God he chose me to be their mommies!

  1. Glad you posted again on your blog. Love it! I think Addy noticed themes that I . . . in my adultness . . . have ignored!
